This song is a blend of two stories. The first is the Bunagaya - trickster creatures that live in the forests of Okinawa. They are known to strike deals with humans for which the humans unwittingly pay a high price. The second story is from the Haruki Murakami book Killing Commendatore, where the protagonist splits from his wife and takes off on a road trip. This song re-imagines that the protagonist’s journey taking him to the woods of the Bunagaya.
